Guided Fly-Fishing Tours in the Soča Valley
The Soča River in Slovenia is known worldwide among Fly-Fishermen for its turquoise crystal
clear water and the Marble Trout. With about a dozen tributaries it offers diverse fisheries, all
characters that rivers can have and many wild and mostly untouched places. With me and the
guides I work with you make sure to have a fishing trip to remember for a lifetime.
Sight-Fishing for Marble Trout
As mentioned in my film, „Fly-fishing is more like hunting“ it has also become an additional
passion to teach people our method of Sight-Fishing. That means we are walking upstream to
spot a fish, analyze it’s behavior, adjust our method and position to try to catch it in one cast.
Especially wild Marble Trout rarely give second chances, but with our knowledge and techniques,
even beginning Fly-Fisherman will experience days they will never forget.
Many times it happens that we go to the river, spot a fish and catch it within one or two casts, but
that is not always the case. Fishing still depends on good conditions, but with each of us having
25 years plus of knowledge about fish behavior and the local area, we increase the chances to the
maximum.
The ultimate approach to fishing: Fly-Fishing on Sight
There are so many ways of fishing that one could fill an encyclopedia out of it. Even Fly-Fishing
has so many different styles and techniques and many books have been written about each of
them. Sight-Fishing is just a different approach and can combine all techniques of Fly-Fishing.
Also it can be practiced to catch almost all species of fish in fresh and saltwater! It simply means
that we spot a fish before we make a cast. By spotting a fish you can see its behavior, adjust your
method and then try to catch that specific fish. Most important is to see exactly what happens
and witness the best moment in Fly-Fishing, when a fish reacts to our fly and hopefully takes it!
How we approach:
As for all other techniques we approach the river, read the water and search the spots where a
fish would likely be. The difference is that we take a precise look until we find a fish and we don’t
just start casting and hope that there is something. Besides that it is way more exciting to search
for and see a fish, it is the best approach in our crystal clear waters. When you cast by chance
and your fly-line goes over a marble trout it will be spooked or at least will stop feeding. This is
why we catch marble trout almost every day and others don’t catch them in years.
What to expect from a day with us:
According to your skills and preferences we will choose a meeting point and buy a license at that
location or online. We prepare the fishing gear and find a good starting point for some practice
casts before we begin with our search for fish. We walk upstream scanning the river and when the
guide spots a fish we adjust our setup and choose the best possible position to make a cast. We
assist as good as we can so you get that fish in the net and take pictures for you. Usually we walk
a lot and few places have easy access and those are the ones which are fished the most, so in
order to avoid other people you need to be physically in a good condition. Depending on our
timeframe and location we will have a proper lunch at a local restaurant or bring a lunchbox. Then
we continue our hunt.
Most tours are custom made to suit your preferences but we also created all-inclusive tours. Find

The idea behind Laurens’ tours
I’ve learned a lot from the many guides I’ve met around the world. Although passionate about their work, they are clear that guiding isn’t easy. Good guides double your pleasure, and our guides will help you practice and teach you to fish the way you have always dreamed. Some people like to fish with streamers, some with nymphs, and others are strictly dry-fly fishers. I would call myself a sight-fisherman, but there are many other specialist styles, such as “tenkara” or “Czech nymphing”. Here in Slovenia, you can enjoy world class fishing for a range of species. However, you need to know where and when to fish. That means you’ll get the most out of your fishing when accompanied by one of our guides.
We want our customers to enjoy the best possible fishing experience. For that reason, our tours are all-inclusive. That’s because we know comfortable accommodation and good food are a big part of what makes a great holiday. We work closely with local hotels and restaurants to save you time and money, and ensure you experience the best of Slovenia.

Important information:
- We have created specialized tours designed to meet your fishing preferences. Naturally, they can also be combined and extended. Do you have any special wishes? No problem, we are happy to help.
- The best guides, hotels and restaurants are usually fully booked months in advance, so we strongly recommend that you book ahead.
- Please avoid coming in July and August: The restaurants and hotels are overflowing and there are too many people on the water. Water levels can also be very low, making the fishing difficult and disappointing.
- We can’t change the weather, but we know exactly how to adjust our plans!
